Hello! Welcome to another Sunday Bilingual News issue, the weekly communication from the Spanish-English Club!

Last week we celebrated the start of springtime in the northern hemisphere. But the previous Sunday indicated we were wrong when we said: “Good bye snow!” Just a day after we enjoyed warm temperatures around 70 degrees, last Monday the snow returned to the northwest area of the country. Also now, a big flood is hitting North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota.
La semana anterior celebramos el comienzo de la primavera en el hemisferio norte. Pero el domingo previo, estuvimos equivocados cuando dijimos: “¡Adiós nieve!”. A blizzard with heavy snow and strong winds forced the closure of numerous routes in the area during the last weekend of March. It looks that we are again in the middle of winter.

Core problem of education

- The week began last Monday with very bad news about the weather in different northern states. The snow returned to Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, and also to Oklahoma. In addition, the Red River overflowed in areas of North Dakota and Minnesota due to heavy rain and ice dams in different locations on the Red River.
Questions:
. Do you know North Dakota is a flat valley without natural refuges? Did you know why the Red River overflowed the area? Under very cold temperature, the melting snow immediately produces ice solid as a rock blocking the flow of the water for the rivers and other streams.
- La semana comenzó el último lunes con muy malas noticias acerca del tiempo en diferentes estados del norte. La nieve retornó a Wyoming, Idaho, Dakota del Norte, Montana, Colorado y también a Oklahoma. Además, el “Red River” (x) desbordó en áreas de Dakota del Norte y Minnesota debido a fuerte lluvia y barreras de nieve en diferentes puntos del río.

- Also on Monday, March 23, the Treasury Department introduced a plan to take toxic assets off the banks’ balance sheets. The initiative produced good and bad reactions. Paul Krugman, Economy Nobel Prize 2008, indicated doubts about the success of this initiative.

He spoke to a government audience in Washington DC, and he said: “In particular, I believe investment in education is essential. Education is the starting point for success for individuals and the prerequisite for economic growth and prosperity for communities. It’s vital that we support efforts to provide children with access to a high-quality education and adults with access to ongoing technology skills training.” Upgrading teacher's skills is also important.
- El martes 24 de marzo, Bill Gates, cofundador de Microsoft expresó sus preocupaciones acerca de la educación en estos momentos de crisis económica. Él habló a una audiencia del gobierno en Washington DC, y dijo: “En particular, yo creo que la inversión en educación es esencial. - Myself, I sent in a question. It was about education. I wrote to President Obama: “From my point of view, the core problem of education is not more schools and teachers. It is the “educational model”. When the institutions don’t have the right model, the best efforts fall into the abyss. Could you explain to us how you are modeling our children’s education? Thank you.”

- Again the financial week ended with positive results on the Wall Street despite the majority of the main indexes of the New York markets fell on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrials Average gained 497.80 points, or 6.84% on the week closing at 7,776.18. In the same period, Nasdaq Composite raised 87.93 points, or 6.03%, closing the week at 1,545.20. Also during the last five days, S&P 500 grew 6.17% and NYSE Composite moved up 5.47%.
