Hello! Welcome to a new issue of the Sunday Bilingual News! The weather doesn't look great in Florida, but we have to feel glad because we don't have snow. The countries of North Europe and the northern states of the United States suffer very heavy snow storms that block routes and create problems for the drivers of cars, trucks and also trains.

¡Hola! ¡Bienvenidos a nuevo número del Sunday Bilingual News! El tiempo no luce magnífico en la Florida, pero tenemos que sentirnos contentos porque no tenemos nieve. Los países del Norte de Europa y los estados norteños de los Estados Unidos sufren muy pesadas tormentas de nieve que bloquean rutas y crean problemas a los conductores de automóviles, camiones y también a trenes.

Here in the United States, the last week was very strong in political and economic issues, but very weak for the stocks of Wall Street. January was the worst month since February 2009 for the major indexes of the New York markets.

Aquí en los Estados Unidos, la última semana fue muy fuerte en asuntos políticos y económicos, pero muy floja para las acciones de Wall Street. Enero fue el peor mes desde febrero del 2009 para los principales índices de los mercados de Nueva York.

On Wednesday January 27, Apple introduced iPad. It is not a a new feminine product. It is a new digital tablet that looks as an overgrown iPod Touch with features from the iPhones and functions of the electronic books such as Kindle and others.

Tesla Motors announced that it has filled a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its common stock on Wall Street. This is a young American company that designs, manufactures, and sells high-performance fully electric vehicles with advanced levels of technology. Its first production car - Tesla Roadster - goes more than 200 miles (380 km) on a single charge. Daimler from Germany, father of the famous Mercedes Benz, invested $50 million last May 2009 and it is a strategic partner of Tesla Motors.

Tesla Motors anunció que llenó la declaración de registración con el Securities and Exchange Commision para propuesta oferta inicial de su acción común en Wall Street. Esta joven compañía americana diseña, fabrica y vende vehículos totalmente eléctricos de alto rendimiento con avanzados niveles de tecnología. Su primer automóvil de producción - Tesla Roadster - anda más de 200 millas (380 kms) con una simple carga. The people from Tesla Motors has the belief that an electric car need not be a driving sacrifice. They say: "We have brought the best of the automotive and technology worlds together to permanently bury the image of an electric car as a step backwards in performance, efficiency, or design". And they think the best definition of automobile is freedom of motion.

Hello! Welcome to the weekly communication from the Spanish-English Club with the analysis of the main subjects of the last few days in both languages: Spanish and English!

¡Hola! ¡Bienvenidos a la comunicación semanal del Spanish-English Club con el análisis de los principales temas de los últimos días en ambas lenguas: español e inglés!

Did you read the newspapers and/or watch TV during the last week? What are, from your perspective, the most important issues of the last seven days?

¿Leyeron los diarios y/o miraron televisión en la última semana? ¿Cuáles fueron, desde vuestra perspectiva, los más importantes asuntos de los últimos siete días?

We think this week was very complex and we cannot talk about all the news in details such as in other issues. Definitely, the Massachusetts election produced a big "earthquake" in the country. Of course, it was a different shaking that Haiti had two weeks ago. The people from Massachusetts talked for all the country and they said: "-We want real and effective changes in the domestic politics. We are angry for delays. We want a government who understands our needs and urgencies."

Nosotros pensamos que esta semana fue muy compleja y nosotros no podemos conversar de todas las noticias en detalle tales como en otros números. Definitivamente, la elección de Massachusetts produjo un gran "terremoto" en el país. Por supuesto, fue una diferente sacudida que la que Haití tuvo hace dos semanas. La gente de Massachusetts habló por todo el pais y ellos dijeron: "Nosotros queremos cambios reales y efectivos en la política interna. Estamos enojados por las demoras. During all the week, major corporations and banks linked with Wall Street published their reports of revenues and incomes from the quarter ended during the last days of December. IBM, Citibank, EBay, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Google, American Express, General Electric, McDonald and a lot of more discussed with the financial analysts of New York their results.

Wednesday was a terrible day for the White House. It was the first anniversary of President Obama assumed the administration of the country. It was not a day of celebrations. It was a day of hard critics because after 12 months of government, the unemployment continues in two digits and there are not clear signals of positive changes.

People are angry because they don't find more coins in their pockets while the corporations are recovering from the collapse of 2008. And the President of the FED is a good target despite all his efforts to maintain the big icons of the country standing.

El problema de trabajo y otros factores económicos produjeron una nueva sacudida el viernes. Dos nuevos senadores demócratas dijeron que ellos no votarán por la confirmación del segundo término de la Reserva Federal de Ben Bernanke. La gente está enojada porque ellos no encuentran más monedas en sus bolsillos mientras que las corporaciones se están recuperando del hundimiento del 2008. Meanwhile, Haiti continued at the top of the headlines worldwide. The government of that country said more than 150,000 corpses have been buried, but nobody knows really how many people died in the earthquake of January 12. Also, two days ago, the rescue teams found more people alive under the rubble.

Mientras tanto, Haití continuó en el tope de los titulares a través de todo el mundo. El gobierno de aquel país dijo que más de 150.000 cadaveres fueron enterrados, pero nadie sabe realmente cuánta gente murió en el terremoto del 12 de enero. In the middle of the painful news about unemployment, Haitian earthquake and people asking for real effective solutions, another topic produced another crucial question mark.

China versus Ms Clinton

The US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, spoke about Internet Freedom at the Newseum, in Washington, DC. Her speech was brilliant but bold. She accused directly the Internet censorship of China, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Vietnam. Also she made negative references about the North Korea's attitude against the freedom of its citizens.

La Secretaria de Estado de los Estados Unidos, Hillary Rodham Clinton habló acerca de las Libertades de Internet en el Newseum, en Washington DC. Su discurso fue brillante y audaz. Ella acusó directamente la censura de Internet de China, Túnez, Uzbekistán, Irán, Arabia Saudita, Egipto, y Vietnam. También ella hizo referencias negativas acerca de la actitud de Corea del Norte contra la libertad de sus ciudadanos.

Additionally, during the speech, the Secretary of State referenced the case of Google's hacker attack last December and questioned the Chinese Government about a serious investigation to put an end to the different attacks that were suffered by US corporations during the last months.

Además, durante el discurso, la Secretaria de Estado hizo referencia al caso de el ataque pirata contra Google el último diciembre y demandó al gobierno chino acerca de una investigación seria que ponga fin a los diferentes ataques que han sufrido las corporaciones americanas durante los últimos meses.

China immediately answered the Secretary of State with a hard message: "We urge the U.S. side to respect facts and stop using the so-called freedom of the Internet to make unjustified accusations against China".

China inmediatamente respondió a la Secretaria de Estado con este duro mensaje: "-Nosotros instamos por el lado de los Estados Unidos que respete los hechos y deje de usar las así llamadas libertades de Internet para hacer injustificadas acusaciones contra China."

What is your opinion about the new international conflict between the United States and China? Who is right and who is wrong? What will be the next problem? Could we measure this unusual conflict?

From our perspective, despite the brave attitude of Ms Clinton, the answer from China puts a critical question mark about the future relationships between both countries.

Desde nuestra perspectiva, a pesar de la valiente actitud de la Señora Clinton, la respuesta de China pone un critico interrogante acerca de las relaciones futuras entre ambos países.

The Berlin Wall that symbolized a world divided into two antagonistic powers didn't end the division of the world. All who worked to recreate our planet as the reign of freedom never finish their job.

El Muro de Berlín que simbolizaba un mundo dividido entre dos poderes antagónicos no terminó con la división del mundo. Todos los que trabajaron para recrear a nuestro planeta como un reino de libertades nunca terminaron su trabajo.

The "Communist Chinese Wall" is not a brick wall. It is a wall of indestructible stone that we will never hand over for the pushing of free ideas. Chinese government and institutions say: "Yes, we want to made deals with the western companies... Yes, we enjoy working with your technology... Yes, we will make computers, chips and smartest machines for everybody... But nobody will change our rules... Everybody who wants to do business with China has to accept the footstep of our boots. You have to realize that under our red flag, all is primarily Chinese assets. "

La "Muralla del Comunismo Chino" no es una pared de ladrillos. Es un muro de piedra indestructible que nunca va ceder por el empuje de ideas libres. Hello! Welcome to a new Sunday Bilingual News! 2010 didn't begin with early vacations. The second week of January was particularly intense with a mosaic of news of different colors and signs. Did you read the newspapers or watch TV?

¡Hola! ¡Bienvenidos a un nuevo Sunday Bilingual News! 2010 no comenzó con vacaciones tempranas. La segunda semana de enero fue particularmente intensa con un mosaico de noticias de diferentes colores y signos. ¿Leyeron los diarios o miraron televisión?

The week began with a good subject. In Detroit, Michigan, the North American International Auto Show 2010 opened its door in the Cobo Center with the enthusiasm of car makers who are pushing a lot of initiatives to rebuild their business. Ford said it is investing hundreds of millions of dollars on its electric vehicle plan and creating 1,000 new jobs. Other manufacturers are working in the development of hybrid cars. Everybody thinks green technologies are the future for the automobile.

La semana comenzó con un buen tema. En Detroit, Michigan, el North American International Auto Show 2010 abrió sus puertas en el Centro de Convenciones Cobo con el entusiasmo de los fabricantes de automóviles quienes están empujando muchas iniciativas para reconstruir sus negocios. Ford dijo que está invirtiendo cientos de millones de dólares en su plan del vehículo eléctrico y creando 1.000 nuevas posiciones de trabajo. But on Tuesday January 12, the Haiti's earthquake shocked all the people who know about the series of dramas this country lived through its history, in particular since the dictatorship period of the Duvalier era.

Both reports showed the technology industry began its recovery after a big decline during the second half of 2008 and the beginning of 2009.

Las compañías de los Estados Unidos que cierran su trimestre financiero en diciembre del 2009 comenzaron esta semana a informar a los analistas e inversores de Wall Street sus ventas e ingresos netos. In Massachusetts, a special election to fill the Senator Edward Kennedy's seat created a lot of political comments and expectations. On Tuesday, this state will vote for their new Senator since Kennedy died on August 25, 2009.

From your point of view, what was the main subject of the last few days? We think the new Haiti's tragedy is something to rethink why a 7.0-magnitude earthquake with the epicenter 16 miles offshore west Port-au-Prince devastated the country in one level that is more than pathetic. On 1989, an earthquake of similar magnitude in the area of San Francisco, California only killed sixty-three people.

Desde vuestro punto de vista, ¿cuál fue el principal tema de los últimos días? We have to observe the rubble of the Haitian's earthquake why also the government and hospital buildings collapsed. This drama requires a deep analysis from different perspectives: social, political, economical, and also from the side of the health care systems of the capital of Haiti, its security, and the construction of the city in an mountainous area without the right building codes.

Nosotros tenemos que observar los escombros del terremoto haitiano porque también los edificios del gobierno y hospitales se derrumbaron. In summary, the Haitian drama is not only corpses and wounded everywhere, and buildings destroyed. It is more. It is an extreme poverty. It is the negligence of its leaders from generations to generations. It is a history of violence and natural catastrophes. It is the lack of dignity for human beings in a scale without comparison in the western hemisphere.

En resumen, el drama haitiano no es sólo cadáveres y heridos por todas partes, y edificios destruidos. Es mucho más. Es una extrema pobreza. Es la negligencia de sus líderes por generaciones de generaciones. Es una historia catástrofes naturales. Es la falta de dignidad para seres humanos en una escala que no tiene comparación en el hemisferio occidental.

We have to lift all the rubble of this country in ruin and try to count how many children for decades and decades cried while starving, how many women suffered rape, how many gangs killed each other for food, fun, or perversion, how many politicians turned their heads to the wrong side for corruption or incompetence, or only very low ambitions.

Definitively, Haiti is a drama in a dimension that hit all of us, to all the members of the western hemisphere because despite the efforts of its own citizens and other countries, every time the natural disasters produced additional collapses, the emergencies didn't give the government the intelligence to see behind the scene for the required and needed solutions.

That's a political dynamite."

And the Freedom Tower of New York is expected for next year with 541 meters (1774.93 feet).

We have to realize we improved a lot our security during the last years, but we can’t sleep or walk and hope the "tech-angels" will protect us night and day.

Hasta ahora, después de casi diez años del 11 de Septiembre del 2001, no hemos aprendido las tácticas mutantes de los terroristas. Continuamos pensando con la vieja mentalidad de la Guerra Fría creando “muros” o “cortinas” que mantenga afuera a los demonios y amenazas. Tenemos que darnos cuenta que si bien hemos mejorado mucho nuestra seguridad durante los últimos años, no podemos dormir o caminar y esperar que los “ángeles de la tecnología” nos van a proteger noche y día.

We have to understand new screening technologies that will scrutinize the privacy of all passengers who board a flight is only a security function, and sometimes "a pure security theather". The devils will find other ways to pack explosive and bombs from the sight of the body screening machines while we are sleeping peacefully dreaming that resources of God-Technology are enough to stop the actions of the Islamic extremism or other similar groups.

It is true, that technology could help as a tool, however more than body screening machines we need smart database systems and clever operators who don’t sleep in front of their computers when the alarms sound.

In addition, we have to realize that risks will continue through airports, ships, Internet communications, or other paths we never before expected they would be holes in our security systems.

Además, tenemos que darnos cuenta que los riesgos continuarán a través de aeropuertos, barcos, comunicaciones de Internet, y otros caminos que nunca hasta ahora esperábamos que podrían ser agujeros de nuestros sistemas de seguridad.

We have to learn to live surrounded by different threats, but acting with intelligence every time the circumstances request initiative. This is the new challenge of all the free-citizens of the world today.

Nosotros tenemos que aprender a vivir rodeados de diferentes amenazas, pero actuando con inteligencia cada vez que las circunstancias requieren iniciativa. Este es el nuevo desafío de todos los ciudadanos libres del mundo ahora.

And remember, Yemen will be a new headache because the Yemenis have a fragile government and they are in a strategic location to host and train terrorists from all countries. Another threat will be Iran with a lot of nuclear ambitions and a political regime that has lost its legitimacy.

Y recuerden, Yemen será un nuevo dolor de cabeza debido a que los yemenitas tienen un gobierno frágil y ellos están en una localización estratégica para hospedar y entrenar terroristas de todos los países. Otra amenaza será Irán con muchas ambiciones nucleares y con un régimen político que ha perdido su legitimidad.

We think, first of all, we need to solve our economic problems with real job opportunities, and we need to heal our social wounds. Beyond all these crucial issues, we have also to rethink our world as the world is.

Nosotros pensamos, primero que todo, que necesitamos resolver nuestros problemas económicos con oportunidades reales de trabajo, y necesitamos curar nuestras heridas sociales. Más allá de estos decisivos asuntos, tenemos que repensar a nuestro mundo tal como el mundo es.

We can not wait for a new Roman Empire collapse. We have to act before the debris of the Western Civilization hit our heads and destroy our lives forever. And we do not have to react with childish attitude, overwrought from hysteria or ingenuousness. Also we have to remember the God-Technology is not an omnipotent God.

Nosotros no podemos esperar un nuevo derrumbe del Imperio Romano. Tenemos que actuar antes que los escombros de la Civilización Occidental golpeé sobre nuestras cabezas y destruya nuestras vidas para siempre. Y no debemos actuar con una actitud pueril, alterados por la histeria o ingenuamente. Debemos además recordar que el Dios Tecnología no es un dios omnipotente.

Yesterday morning we had a humorous dialogue with Bev:

I wrote: "Dear Friends: Good morning! Today is not a Florida classic day. This morning at 7.30 am when I went outside to walk I didn't see another human being. Only some frozen birds. No dogs, no runners... The temperature was approximately 40 F according to the radio. "

And Bev answered: “Domingo, I laughed when I read your message.
Do you know why? I said to myself: Why is Domingo out in the street alone, (with no people, dogs, or runners, only frozen birds) while everyone else is curled up in bed? Did you forget you are not in Jackson? As my sister says: “- Floridians are not afraid of storms and hurricanes, but just when little chill comes, everyone gets frightened. Bev”
