ANALYSIS OF THE NEWS

Different faces of the Justice
Diferentes caras de la Justicia

- The week began with the news from Honduras about the military coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya. This event reminded us of the long Latin American history of military mutinies and interventions of generals and colonels in the political and civil issues of the majority of the countries of that area. For decades, every time that a military officer didn’t like the initiatives of a constitutional president, new rebellion began with tanks in the streets and the assault on the government buildings.
Questions:
. Do you remember how many military revolutions ousted presidents and members of the congresses across the Latin American countries?
- Are the rebellions and revolutions the right way to solve political differences or punish corrupt governments in the democracies?
- Do you know the first steps in the political arena of key figures of Latin American history like Perón, Pinochet or Chavez?

Questions:

. What is the real meaning of 150 years of prison? Experts in financial crimes say, in this case, the maximum sentence is a symbol of the justice against corrupt financiers and business people. Do you agree?
. Do you think the Madoff’s wife – Ruth- and other members of the family are innocent?
. How many other people do you think are behind this huge fraud with victims everywhere in the world?

- On Tuesday, June 30, Iranian Council confirmed President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s victory over his challenger Mir Houssein Mousavi after a partial recount of votes.

In summary, the week showed different faces of what is Justice across the world. Iranian Supreme Leader didn’t balance the claim of an important sector of his population. . Perhaps the best of the week was the U.S. Supreme Court judgment against a Connecticut city’s decision. Race, nationality, sex, religion, or age never has to be used as a resource differentiating people from one to another, because all human beings are the same before the Divine Justice according to the biblical books.
