As you know, the next holiday is Christmas. Maybe we will have fewer presents than previous years, but it is always a nice celebration to share with the family and friends.

Cómo ustedes saben, el próximo feriado es Navidad. Quizás tendremos menos regalos que en los años previos, pero siempre es una buena celebración para compartir con la familia y los amigos.

This year, Santa only looks for bargains…. He/She doesn’t have money according to the first surveys. eBay, Amazon.com and others forecasted lower levels of sales during the Holidays.

Este año, Santa sólo busca gangas (o baratijas)… El/ella no tiene dinero de acuerdo con las primeras encuestas. eBay, Amazon.com y otros pronosticaron muy bajos niveles de ventas durante las Fiestas.

But it is not a bad idea to learn to live frugally. The current economic crisis is a good lesson for all the people borrowing money that they can’t pay back; buying houses and cars they can’t afford; running up plastic card debt like crazy.

Pero no es mala idea aprender a vivir frugalmente. La crisis económica actual es una buena lección para todos los que tomando dinero prestado que ellos no pueden reembolsar, compran casas y automóviles que no tienen forma de pagar, y contraen deudas en dinero plástico alocadamente.

- The terrorist attack on strategic buildings of Mumbai was a new demonstration of the violence worldwide. But the history of this Indian city used to be known as Bombay shows other sectarian violent actions in the last decades. The riots of 1992-93 caused extensive loss of life and property. On July 2006 several bombs exploded on the Mumbai Suburban Railway train killing two hundred people. In this assault, the difference was in the targets attacked: international hotels, a Jewish temple and tourism sectors of the city in a very well organized and synchronized operation. What were the main goals of this attack? Some observers see behind the attack a devilish plan to discredit the country as a world center of business, finance, and technology research.

- El ataque terrorista a estratégicos edificios de Mumbai fue una nueva demostración de violencia a través del mundo. Pero la historia de esta ciudad hindú también conocida como Bombay, recuerda otras acciones violentas de grupos sectarios en las últimas décadas. Los disturbios de 1992-93 causaron grandes pérdidas de vidas y propiedades. En julio del 2006, varias bombas explotaron en un tren del Ferrocarril Suburbano de Mumbai matando unas doscientas personas. En el último asalto, la diferencia fueron los objetivos atacados: hoteles internacionales, un templo judío y sectores turísticos de la ciudad en una muy bien organizada y sincronizada operación. ¿Cuáles fueron las principales razones de este ataque? Algunos observadores ven un plan diabólico detrás del ataque, para desacreditar al país como centro mundial de los negocios, las finanzas y de la investigación tecnológica.

- President Elect Barack Obama was very active during the week naming key economic advisors to help him and speaking in three press conferences about his first program when he assumes the Presidency of the United States next January 20.

- El Presidente Electo Barack Obama estuvo muy activo durante la semana nombrando consejeros económicos claves para que lo ayuden a él, y hablando en tres conferencias de prensa acerca de su primer programa cuando asuma la Presidencia de los Estados Unidos el próximo 20 de enero.

- Some liberals don’t understand how the President Elect will coordinate strong personalities in a unique team, but Wall Street gave its first approval. The Dow Jones Industrials Average grew 782.62 points, or 9.73% on the week, closing at 8,829.04 on Friday. The Nasdaq Composite gained 151.22 points, or 10.92%, in the same period closing at 1,535.57. Do you agree with Wall Street this time?

Algunos liberales no comprenden cómo el Presidente Electo podrá coordinar fuertes personalidades en un único equipo, pero Wall Street le dio su primera aprobación. El índice Dow Jones Industrials Average creció 782,62 puntos, o sea 9,73% en la semana, cerrando a 8.829,04 el viernes. Nasdaq Composite ganó 151,22 puntos, o sea 10,92%, en el mismo período cerrando a 1.535,57. ¿Están de acuerdo con Wall Street esta vez?

The Sun God is coming back...
El Dios Sol está retornando...

On November 25, IBM published its third annual “Next Five in Five”, a list of the innovations that have the potential to change the way people work, live and play over the next five years. Could you guess, what was the first subject on the list?

The new annual analysis of the innovations in five years says: “… Solar technology will be built into asphalt, paint and windows.” “Until now, the materials and the process of producing solar cells to convert into energy have been too costly for widespread adoption. But now this is changing with the creation of “thin-film” solar cells, a new type of cost-efficient solar cell that can be 100 times thinner than silicon-wafer cells and produced at a lower cost. These new thin-film solar cells can be “printed” and arranged on a flexible surface, suitable for not only the tops, but also the sides of buildings, tinted windows, cell phones, notebook computers, cars, and even clothing.”

Maybe we don’t need to wait five years to install solar cells in your house. First Solar, Inc. is working on a program named SolarCity to implement rooftop applications of photovoltaic modules that capture solar energy and convert it to electricity in homes and small businesses. The program began in Arizona, California and Oregon. This company plans to expand SolarCity into additional states in 2009 and 2010.

Tal vez no tendremos que esperar cinco años para instalar células solares en nuestra casa. First Solar, Inc. está trabajando en un programa denominado SolarCity que implanta aplicaciones de módulos fotovoltaico sobre los techos para capturar energía solar y convertirla en electricidad en hogares y pequeños negocios. - First Solar, Inc is a new manufacturer of solar technology solutions based in Arizona. Last Friday, it closed at $124.84. But there are other innovative solar technology manufacturers. Several weeks ago, Intel announced investments in Troy Solar Holding, Co. "When you write something like you did above, it insinuates that 'they' are not 'us' in a sense. In other words, the term 'we' would be most appropriate--whether you fall into the category or not. ALL of us are guilty of overspending at one time or the other in our lifetimes--be it an emergency or lust for a luxury item. Holidays in the U.S.A. are nothing more than 'commercial' niceties which we have brought on ourselves instead of seeking the real meaning of Christmas--Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We are approaching hard and scary times and all of us should be aware of what is about to happen. By reading and re-reading the book of Revelations (find a book in laymen's terms is best) one will realize that this world is short lived. Our leaders are preparing us for the worst to come and yet we worry about buying each other gifts? We should spend time with our families and enjoy each others company and eat merrily while we can and be thankful for that much. Material things are why we are in the mess we're in today, people. Seek what is in your heart and follow it--for our days grow shorter and shorter. May God Bless Us All for the 'lean years' are upon us." Tina.
