November is like running through a tunnel with a lot of curves. I hope you are only observers of this mess:

- The car makers ask for help because they don’t want to file for U.S. Bankruptcy protection.
- Residents of Southern California are suffering from wildfire destruction in an extended area of rich properties and trailer parks.
-Wall Street’s stocks can’t find the way to get out of the abyss.
- New attacks with portable bombs hit the Iraqi cities, while Afghanistan and Pakistan complain about the death of innocent people.

However, it is not all bad. Zac Sunderland, a solo teenager sailor, 16, arrived at Mauritius last week. He left Marina Del Rey, California on June 14, 2008. Zac wants to be the youngest person to sail solo around the world.

Additionally, leaders of 20 countries met in Washington, D.C. and they agreed to work together to revive their economies and halt the global crisis.

- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler asked for a rescue package from the Government. Some leaders of the Congress agreed to give to the auto makers a bailout of $25 billion. Despite this, the initiative generated hard opposition from other members of Congress. What do you think about the controversial subject? Years ago, when some airlines had financial problems, they filed for Chapter 11 and rebuilt their businesses. Before that, other corporate giants such as PanAm died. Chrysler also received a bailout in the past.

- General Motors, Ford y Chrysler pidieron un paquete de rescate financiero al Gobierno. Algunos de los líderes del Congreso acordaron darles a los fabricantes de automóviles un rescate de 25 mil millones de dólares. A pesar de esto, la iniciativa generó una dura oposición por parte de otros miembros del Congreso. ¿Qué piensan ustedes acerca de este polémico tema? Años atrás, cuando algunas compañías aéreas tuvieron problemas financieros, ellas aplicaron al Capítulo 11 y reorganizaron sus negocios. Antes de esto, otras corporaciones gigantes tales como PanAm murieron. Por otra parte, Chrysler ya recibió otro rescate financiero en el pasado.

- Montecito, in Spanish means “small wood”, is the center of a “big” hell now. The fire consumed more than 110 residences and 600 mobile homes from Santa Barbara to Orange County, California. Some sources say the wind and oil-rich eucalyptus trees helped to extend the inferno. Several years ago, when I drove across Santa Barbara, I said to myself, this area is a “paradise”, near the ocean, with green covered hills, excellent weather, and beautiful houses. Really, is it a paradise?

- Montecito, que en español significa “pequeño monte”, es ahora el centro del “gran” infierno. El fuego consumió más de 110 residencias y 600 casas móviles desde Santa Bárbara hasta el Condado Orange, en California. Algunas fuentes dicen que el viento y los árboles de eucalipto ricos en aceite ayudaron a extender la hoguera. Años atrás, cuando yo viajaba por Santa Bárbara, me dije a mi mismo, esta área es un “paraíso”, cerca del océano, con montañas cubiertas de verde, excelente clima, y hermosas casas. ¿Realmente es un paraíso?

- Something not frequently done, the leaders of 20 countries agreed Saturday to work together to revive their economies. But the sessions were not a party or a celebration. Some of the participants criticized the United States for its responsibility in the global financial crisis. Do you agree? Do you believe that the others are only victims? The most important result is the group planned its next meeting for April 30, 2009.

- Algo no frecuente, los líderes de 20 países acordaron el sábado trabajar en forma conjunta para restablecer sus economías. Pero las sesiones no fueron fiesta o celebración. - Wall Street suffered another important fall due to the volatility of the financial markets. The famous index, the Dow Jones Industrials Average, declined 446.27 points, or 4.99% for the week, closing at 8497.31 on Friday. Nasdaq Composite, the index very close to the technology sector, dropped 130.55 points, or 7.92%, in the same period closing at 1516.85.

- Wall Street sufrió otra importante caída debido a la volatilidad de los mercados financieros. El famoso índice, el Dow Jones Industrials Average, declinó 446,27 puntos, o sea 4,99% por la semana, cerrando en 8.497,31 el viernes. Nasdaq Composite, índice muy cercano al sector de tecnología, dejó caer 130,55 puntos, o sea 7,92%, en el mismo período, cerrando en 1.516,85.

- Zac Sunderland, the solo teen sailor plans to complete his adventure rounding the Cape of Good Hope, sailing across the Atlantic and after that through the Panama Canal back to the Pacific and home. What do you think about this teenager?
