During the last few days, politics and economy continued at the top of the headlines for the papers and TV.

Durante los últimos días, política y economía continuaron en el tope de los titulares de los diarios y la televisión.

The midterm elections are pushing different kinds of debates. A lot of observers link the lack of momentum with the low recovery of the economy and the unemployment that hits a lot of people, also professionals and qualified workers who lost their jobs since the stock market debacle of August 2008.

Las elecciones de mitad de término están empujando diferentes clases de debates. Muchos observadores vinculan el vacío del momento con el bajo recupero de la economía y el desempleo que golpea a mucha gente, también a profesionales y trabajadores calificados quienes perdieron sus trabajos desde la derrumbe del mercado bursátil de agosto del 2008.

But the drama of the jobless is not exclusive to the United States. During the last week, some reports from Spain showed this European country is suffering a massive unemployment despite its economy is stronger than the Greek economy.

Pero el drama de los sin trabajo no es exclusivo de los Estados Unidos. Durante la última semana, algunos informes desde España mostraron que este país europeo esta sufriendo un desempleo masivo a pesar que su economía es más sólida que la economía griega.

According to some sources, the Spanish unemployment is connected to the stop of housing developments due to the excessive building projects of the last few years, more than the normal demand for buyers. This situation has harmed a lot of workers from Latin American countries who arrived in Europe during the golden years of the bubble created around the euro as a new strong continental currency after 2001.

De acuerdo con algunas fuentes, el desempleo español está conectado con el alto de los desarrollos urbanísticos debido a los excesivos proyectos de construcción de los últimos años, más de la normal demanda de compradores. La situación ha perjudicado a muchos trabajadores de países latinoamericanos quienes arribaron a Europa durante los años dorados de burbuja creada alrededor del euro como nueva fuerte moneda continental después del 2001.

Other bad news came from China. The explosion of a pipeline in the Yellow Sea produced the largest leak of oil in the history of the Asian Giant. Solders are cleaning the coasts of the sea with all the tools that they have near and also with their hands.

Otra mala noticia llegó de China. La explosión de una tubería en el Mar Amarillo produjo el mayor escape de petróleo en la historia del Gigante Asiático. Los soldados están limpiando las costas del mar con todas las herramientas que ellos tienen a su alcance y también con sus propias manos.

Here in the United States, Florida and the states of the Golf of Mexico were braced for the threat of the tropical storm Bonnie between Wednesday and Thursday. Press comments said the tropical storms and possible hurricanes could present new challenges to the BP’s effort to stop the oil spill of the well damaged by the explosion of last April.

Aquí en los Estados Unidos, Florida y los estados del Golfo de México estuvieron preparándose por la amenaza de la tormenta tropical Bonnie entre el miércoles y jueves. Comentarios de la prensa dijeron que las tormentas tropicales y posibles huracanes podrían presentar nuevos desafíos al esfuerzo de BP para parar el derrame de petróleo del pozo dañado por la explosión del pasado abril.

Also during the week, President Obama signed financial reform legislation that puts much of the attention in the biggest US banks but not in financial system linked with the poorest American population.

También durante la semana, el Presidente Obama firmó ley de reforma financiera que pone mucha atención en los grandes bancos de los Estados Unidos pero no en el sistema financiero vinculado con la población americana más pobre.

In a new public presentation, Ben Bernanke, head of the US Federal Reserve, promised to bolster the financial system if it needs. Till now, during the last months, the Federal Reserve was only another observer of the different movements of the economy and finance of the country.

En una nueva presentación pública, Ben Bernanke, cabeza de la Reserva Federal de los Estados Unidos, prometió reforzar el sistema financiero si se necesita. Hasta ahora, durante los últimos meses, la Reserva Federal fue solamente otro observador más de los diferentes movimientos de la economía y las finanzas del país.

The week ended with an important advance of the major stock indexes of Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrials Average rose 102 points, or 1%, to 10424.62 on Friday, up 3.2% for the week. The S&P 500 index climbed over 1100 for the first time in the month.

La semana terminó con un importante avance de los principales índices de acciones de Wall Street. El Dow Jones Industrials Average creció 102 puntos, o sea 1%, para cerrar en 10.424,62 el viernes, arriba de 3,20% por la semana. El índice S&P 500 trepó sobre los 1.100 por primera vez en el mes.

Again, as a summary of the week, the most important news showed that the November elections and the back and forth of the economy are the concern of analysts and business people. In general, independent voters are not satisfied with government initiatives to reactive the economy and reduce the pain of the workers without reasonable incomes. We continue driving across a road with a lot of potholes.

De nuevo, como resumen de la semana, las más importantes noticias mostraron que las elecciones de noviembre y el ir y venir de la economía son las preocupaciones de los analistas y la gente de negocios. En general, los votantes independientes no están satisfechos con las iniciativas del gobierno para reactivar la economía y reducir el pesar de los trabajadores sin razonables ingresos. Continuamos manejando a través de una ruta con muchos baches.
