Hello! We are again in the celebration of a new Memorial Day, the day when the United States commemorates the men and women who died serving to the nation in military actions.

¡Hola! Nosotros estamos de nuevo en la celebración de un nuevo Memorial Day, el día cuando los Estados Unidos conmemoran a los hombres y mujeres que murieron sirviendo a la nación en acciones militares.

First enacted to honor of Union soldiers of the American Civil War as Decoration Day, it was expanded after World War I to all the men and women dead in military actions. Now, Memorial Day remembers also the soldiers who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan during the current military campaigns.

Primero promulgado en honor de los soldados de la Unión de la Guerra Civil Americana como Día de la Condecoración, fue extendido después de la Primera Guerra Mundial a todos los hombres y mujeres muertos en acciones militares. Ahora, Memorial Day recuerda también a los soldados que han muerto en Iraq y Afganistán durante las actuales campañas militares.

Despite all the noise produced during the last few days by the news linked with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, we think it is good to make a stop to remember the thousands and thousands of anonymous soldiers who died fighting for the country. What is your opinion? Could you express your own feelings about this special commemoration?

A pesar de todo el ruido producido durante los últimos días por las noticias vinculadas con el derrame de petróleo en el Golfo de México, nosotros pensamos que es bueno hacer una parada para recordar a los miles y miles de soldados anónimos quienes murieron luchando por el país. ¿Cuál es vuestra opinión? ¿Podrían expresar vuestros propios sentimientos acerca de esta especial conmemoración?

Several days ago, we read about the Battle of Antietam, fought on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland. This battle of the American Civil War was the bloodiest single-day battle in all the American history, with about 23,000 casualties. Today, the battlefield of Antietam is one of the cemeteries of these anonymous soldiers who died in military actions. But when we travel across the country we find soldiers dead fighting for the nation also in the graveyards of small towns of the Rocky Mountains or the Great Plains.

Algunos días atrás, leímos sobre la Batalla de Antietam, luchada el 17 de septiembre de 1862, cerca de Sharpsburg, en Maryland. Esta batalla de la Guerra Civil Americana fue la batalla de un día más sangrienta de toda la historia americana, con más de 23.000 víctimas. Hoy, el campo de batalla de Antietam es uno de los cementerios de esos soldados anónimos que murieron en acciones militares. Pero cuando viajamos a través del país nosotros encontramos soldados muertos luchando por la nación también en los cementerios de pequeños pueblos de las Montañas Rocosas o de las Grandes Planicies.
