FROM REBELLIONS TO AFGHANISTAN WAR

DE REBELLONES A LA GUERRA DE AFGANISTAN

During the last few days we learned a new word: “rebellion”. What is the real meaning of "rebellion" across the world? I think it is a very hard word.

En los últimos días hemos aprendido una palabra nueva: “rebelión”. ¿Cuál es el verdadero significado de "rebelión" a través del mundo? Pienso que es una palabra muy dura.

Personally, I think the media and others created a huge story about the rebellion against the President Obama. In a free country, it is normally the people shout aggressively their ideas and claim for changes when they don’t like the direction of political, social or economic issues.

Personalmente, pienso que los medios de prensa y otros crearon una gran historia acerca de la rebelión contra el Presidente Obama. En un país libre, es normal que la gente grite agresivamente sus ideas y reclame por cambios cuando a ellos no les gusta la dirección de las cuestiones políticas, sociales o económicas.

From my point of view, the word “rebellion” implies more that shouts and cartoons with bad legends. It is a hard resistance to the authority and the representatives of the government.

Desde mi punto de vista, la palabra “rebelión” implica más que gritos y caricaturas con malas leyendas. Es una dura resistencia a la autoridad y a los representantes del gobierno.

Across the History, the real rebellions produced more noise and violence. The people in rebellious attitude burn tires, break windows, cut traffic on the streets, attack the police with stones, produce big physical damages and shake the authority. In the Universal History, the best sample of a rebellion was the French Revolution.

A través de la Historia, las verdaderas rebeliones produjeron más ruido y violencia. La gente en actitud rebelde quema cubiertas de automóviles, rompe ventanas, corta el tráfico de las calles, ataca a la policía con piedras, produce grandes daños físicos y sacude a la autoridad. En la Historia Universal, el mejor ejemplo de una rebelión fue la Revolución Francesa.

Another important subject of the week was the new dilemma in the Afghanistan war. Military chief, Adm. Mike Mullen, suggested U.S. needs to deploy more troops in Afghanistan. Additionally, he said the success would also require much more time.

El otro tema importante de la semana fue el nuevo dilema en la Guerra de Afganistán. El Jefe Militar, Mike Mullen, sugirió que los Estados Unidos necesitan desplegar más tropas en Afganistán. Adicionalmente dijo que el éxito podría también requerir mucho más tiempo.

Afghanistan was the graveyard of Russian troops after the fierce resistance of Afghan tribes against the Soviet tanks decades ago. The current Afghanistan war is more than a rebellion of Afghan tribes. Could United States and the NATO troops achieve a clear triumph in a short period? This is really a critical issue and the open debate continues.

Afganistán fue el cementerio de las tropas rusas después de una feroz resistencia de las tribus afganas contra los tanques soviéticos décadas atrás. La actual Guerra de Afganistán es más que una rebelión de tribus afganas. ¿Podrán los Estados Unidos y las tropas de la NATO alcanzar un claro triunfo en corto tiempo? Este es realmente un asunto crítico y el debate abierto continúa.
