From our point of view, the week between Monday December 7 and today was a rich mosaic of different subjects to discuss in a bilingual practice. But overall, the President Obama’s speech accepting the Nobel Peace Price in Oslo was really the major issue for both the people who criticized him and his supporters.

Paradox of the Nobel Peace Prize 2009

Paradoja del Premio Nobel de la Paz 2009

Some people applauded the President Obama’s speech as a classic American speech of a war president, but the majority of the population doesn’t understand the links between this award and the current status of the President Obama as commander in chief of a nation involved in two wars. For the other side, a lot of Europeans didn’t like the accepting of the Nobel Peace Price by the US President just a week after he ordered 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.

- What is your opinion about the controversial issue to accept a peace award talking about the war?

- Did you watch the ceremony in the City Hall of Oslo looking the faces of who were hearing President Obama talking about a just war? Do you know the applause was not unanimous?

- Do you agree with President Obama when in his speech, he compared the current war against terrorists with the Holy War of the times of the Crusades?

- What do you think about the President Obama’s statement: "Evil does exist in the world"?

- Could you make a parallel between Mohandas Gandhi and Presidente Obama?

- Do you think peace and war are incoherent for themselves?

In summary, when we reread President Obama’s speech we don’t see him receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, we imagine the Mio Cid or another of the Christian heroes of the Middle Ages fighting against the Moors or the Muslims of the Holy War. And this is real paradox. No real warrior -or commander in chief - could accept the flags of the peace before the total defeat of the enemy. For the real heroes of the Holy War, the Peace Prizes were the bloody heads of the beheaded enemies in middle of the roar of the battle and the steel-noise of the last swords in action.

All the best,

Domingo

I think according to your summary, the President Obama speech was not really a peace speech.

I don't understand why President Obama ran to Oslo to receive a prize he knows he doesn't deserve. The Afghan war will continue for longer... I don't know if this President will see the end.

President Obama went to Oslo for the pride to say I received a Nobel Prize. Till now, nobody created a Nobel War Prize.

Now, after President Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize, again he said the peace with the terrorists is not possible. Maybe next year, somebody create the Nobel War Prize for our President. Susy
