Hello! Welcome to another issue of the Sunday Bilingual News! This is our weekly communication from the Spanish-English Club of the last Sunday of October 2008, at only nine days until the US Presidential Election.

¡Hola! Bienvenidos a otro número del Sunday Bilingual News! Esta es la comunicación semanal del Spanish-English Club del último domingo de octubre del 2008, a sólo nueve días de las elecciones presidenciales de los Estados Unidos.

Last week was gloomy, but what do you expect for the next days? I will give you an “advance”… Between today and next Saturday, more than 2700 world companies will publish their financial reports for the last quarter ended on September 30. Definitely, we will hear negative comments every day because a lot of enterprises are posting lower earnings than the analysts and investors expected and everyone is saying they cannot predict how much money they will earn in the last three months of the year.

La semana pasada fue oscura, pero ¿qué esperan ustedes para los próximos días? Les voy a dar un “adelanto”…Entre hoy y el próximo sábado, más de 2700 empresas mundiales publicarán sus resultados financieros por el último trimestre finalizado el 30 de septiembre. Definitivamente, vamos escuchar comentarios negativos cada día porque muchas empresas están informando más bajas ganancias de lo que los analistas e inversores esperaban y cada uno está diciendo que ellos no pueden pronosticar cuanto más dinero ellos ganarán en los últimos tres meses del año.

Last week, the analysts disagreed with the figures posted by AT&T, Microsoft, Yahoo, Sony, Samsung and others… During the current week, the “parade” of companies that will come up to the stage on Wall Street to inform about revenues and earnings includes names such as: ExxonMobil (oil), Burger King (fast food), Verizon Communications (telecommunications), Hitachi (electronics and information systems), SAP (software), First Solar (solar panels), Sharp (flat panels, copiers, electronics), Procter & Gamble (cleaning, personal care products…), Kodak (cameras, image solutions), Motorola (communications), Sun Microsystems (technology), Deutsche Bank (important German bank), Symantec (software), Fujitsu (technology), Weyerhaeuser (wood products)…and a lot of companies from China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, India, Europe and Latin America (Mexico, Brazil, Argentina…).

En la última semana, los analistas estuvieron en desacuerdo con los números informados por AT&T, Microsoft, Yahoo, Sony, Samsung y otros… Durante la presente semana, el “desfile” de compañías que subirán al escenario en Wall Street para informar acerca de los ingresos y ganancias incluye nombres tales como: ExxonMobil (petróleo), Burger King (comida rápida), Verizon Communications (telecomunicaciones), Hitachi (electrónica y sistemas de información), SAP (software), First Solar (paneles solares), Sharp (paneles planos, copiadoras, electrónicos), Procter & Gamble (productos de límpieza, de cuidado personal…), Kodak (cámaras, soluciones de imagen), Motorola (comunicaciones), Sun Microsystems (tecnología), Deutsche Bank (importante banco alemán), Symantec (software), Fujitsu (tecnología), Weyerhaeuser (productos de madera)… y muchas compañías de China, Japón, Taiwan, India, Europa y América Latina (México, Brasil, Argentina…).

Sorry for my comment, but this week, Wall Street will be worse than a “torture” room when the financial analysts inquire into the balance sheets and ask to the CEOs why they didn’t achieve better results or why they continue reporting “red” figures…

Disculpen por el comentario, pero esta semana, Wall Street será peor que una sala de “torturas” cuando los analistas financieros indaguen las hojas de balances y pregunten a los presidentes porqué ellos no pueden alcanzar mejores resultados o porqué ellos continúan informando números en “rojo”…

Maybe you prefer to talk about a very different subject: bears? Do you know how many grizzly bears live in Montana now? Could you count them for me?

Quizás, ustedes prefieran hablar acerca de un tema muy diferente: ¿osos? ¿Conocen cuántos osos pardos viven en Montana ahora? ¿Podrían contarlos para mí?

Or perhaps, if you feel afraid of bears, you would like to know why India wants to explore the Moon, or why the Argentine Government is pushing to nationalize the private retirement system, or if Mr. Greenspan was wrong when the mortgage bubble began to raise up to the sky… Please, in confidence: Is Alan Greenspan guilty of the current economic-financial crisis? Days ago, at Capitol Hill hearings, somebody asked: “Who is guilty?” No one is willing to accept the blame – just a lot of finger pointing.

O tal vez, si ustedes temen a los osos, les gustaría conocer porqué la India quiere explorar la Luna, o porqué el Gobierno Argentino está presionando por la nacionalización del sistema de retiro privado, o si el Señor Greenspan estuvo equivocado cuando la burbuja de las hipotecas comenzó a crecer hasta el cielo… Por favor, en confianza: ¿Es Alan Greenspan culpable de la actual crisis económica-financiera? Días atrás, en la audiencia del Capitolio, alguien preguntó: ¿Quién es culpable? Nadie está dispuesto a aceptar culpas, sólo porque muchos dedos lo apunten.

Before we enter into the story of today, we will make a short review of some news:

Antes que entremos a la historia de hoy, vamos a hacer una breve revista de algunas noticias:

- India launched its first unmanned spacecraft to orbit the Moon showing its intention to be included in the select club of space navigators. The irony, 25% of its population of 1,147,995,904 inhabitants, in other words, more than 286 million people are below the poverty line. These poor people are exposed to different infectious diseases: bacterial diarrhea, hepatitis A and E, typhoid fever, malaria and others. And the life expectancy of the total population including high and low classes is 69.25 years.

- La India lanzó su primera nave espacial no tripulada en la órbita de la Luna mostrando su intención de ser incluida en el selecto club de los navegadores espaciales. Ironía, 25% de su población de 1.147.995.904 habitantes, es decir más de 286 millones de personas viven bajo la línea de pobreza. - Argentina President Cristina Kirchner wants to nationalize private pension funds because she needs cash to pay for external debts, and maybe for political patronage in the next year’s midterm elections. The irony, twelve years ago, former President Carlos Menen pushed the Argentine workers to apply for the novel private retirement system because the national pension funds were empty. By the way, do you remember last December, when prosecutors in Miami charged four Venezuelans for the scandal of the carrying of dollars Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez gave Mrs. Kirchner for her campaign?

Why do the workers always have to pay for the mistakes of the government? And why does the government change the rules of the game frequently without caring for the damage that they produce for the citizens who believe in the institutions and the principles of social justice? What kind of valuation does the government make for the decent workers who build the richness of the nation with their daily work without shouting in the Plazas de Mayo, without shooting a bullet against the Pink Houses?

- La Presidente de Argentina Cristina Kirchner quiere nacionalizar los fondos privados de pensión porque necesita dinero para pagar deudas externas, y quizás para patrocinios políticos en las elecciones de mitad del período del año próximo. Ironía, doce años atrás, el ex-presidente Carlos Menen empujó a los trabajadores argentinos a aplicar al nuevo sistema privado de retiro porque los fondos nacionales de pensión estaban vacíos. De paso, ¿recuerdan en diciembre pasado, fiscales en Miami culparon a cuatro venezolanos por el escándalo del transporte de los dólares que el Presidente Hugo Chávez le dio a la Señora Kirchner para su campaña?

¿Porqué los trabajadores siempre tienen que pagar por los errores del gobierno? ¿Y porqué el gobierno cambia las reglas de juego frecuentemente sin preocuparse por el daño que produce a los ciudadanos que creen en las instituciones y en los principios de justicia social? ¿Qué clase de valoración el gobierno hace respecto de los trabajadores decentes que construyen la riqueza de la nación con el trabajo diario sin gritar en las Plazas de Mayo, sin disparar un tiro contra las Casas Rosadas?

- President Bush called 20 nations to an emergency summit meeting to discuss the economic crisis in Washington on November 15. The new G-2O forum includes the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union.

- El Presidente Bush llamó a 20 naciones a una reunión cumbre de emergencia para discutir la crisis económica en Washington el 15 de noviembre. El nuevo foro G-20 incluye a los siguientes países: Argentina, Australia, Brasil, Canadá, China, Francia, Alemania, India, Indonesia, Italia, Japón, Corea del Sur, México, Rusia, , Arabia Saudita, Sudáfrica, Turquía, Reino Unido, los Estados Unidos y la Unión Europea.

- The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to take a deep cut in oil production. Despite this decision, crude oil fell to $64.50 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange market, on Friday.

- Wall Street suffered again an important fall due to the symptoms of global economic recession. Nasdaq Composite, index very close to the technology sector, dropped 159.26 points, or 9.31%, in the same period closing at 1552.03. And S&P 500 lost 63.78 points, or 6.78%, closing at 876.77.

- Wall Street sufrió de nuevo una importante caída debido a los síntomas de recesión económica mundial. El famoso índice, el Dow Jones Industrials Average, declinó 473,27 puntos, o sea 5,35% por la semana, cerrando en 8378,95 el viernes. In the past days, the newspaper Jackson Hole Daily of Jackson, Wyoming, published a story written by Cory Hatch with the title: “Bear deaths high”. Could we talk about bears in our weekly bilingual practice session of today?

How many bears reside in Montana?
¿Cuántos osos residen en Montana?

A lot of stories say: “Be carefully with the grizzly bears because they kill…” But how many stories talk about the bears killed by the human beings…

Muchos historias dicen: “Tenga cuidado con los osos pardos porque ellos matan…”. Pero muy pocos relatos hablan acerca de los osos muertos por los seres humanos…

Days ago, members of the Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team estimated that 39 grizzly bears have died in 2008. According to the article of “Bear deaths high” of Jackson Hole Daily, seventeen of those deaths involved hunting incidents, six where the result of natural causes and four had unknown causes. The other deaths were from human causes too.

Días atrás, miembros del Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team estimaron que 39 osos pardos han muerto en el 2008. De acuerdo con el artículo “Alta muerte de osos” del Jackson Hole Daily, 17 de esas muertes se debieron a incidentes de caza, seis fueron por causas naturales y cuatro a causas desconocidas. Las otras muertes también se debieron a acciones de los hombres.

The majority of the grizzly bears reside in northwest Montana, in the region of the Yellowstone National Park. By the way, the U.S Department of the Interior has a special Website where it is possible to read about the current population of the bears and the efforts of the Government to protect the animal species against all actions that could determine its extinction.

La mayoría de los osos pardos residen en el noroeste de Montana, en la región del Parque Nacional Yellostone. A modo de comentario, el Departamento de Interior de los Estados Unidos tiene un sitio Web especial donde es posible leer acerca de la actual población de los osos y de los esfuerzos del Gobierno para proteger esta especie animal contra todas las acciones que podrían determinar su extinción.

On September 16, 2008, a unit of the U.S. Department of the Interior named as USGS informed in a new study estimates 765 grizzly bears live in northwest Montana.

A team of more than 200 researchers working in the field estimated the complete population through an original method. They collected hair from bear rubs in the trees and the posts, and special hair traps. Since 2004 they collected a total of 34,000 bear hair samples.

After that, in the lab, the genetic analysis of all the samples resulted in the identification of 567 individual grizzly bears. Next, the scientists used a statistical model to calculate the number of bears not sampled. The conclusion was the total population is 765 bears.

¡Hola! ¡Bienvenidos a la comunicación semanal del Spanish-English Club! ¿Están ustedes pensando sobre cómo Islandia se derrite, en las quejas de Pepe el Plomero, el “W” de Oliver Stone, o porqué Corea del Norte cambió su forma de pensar? ¿Cuál es vuestra principal preocupación ahora?

Do you believe the globalization of finance helped get us into the great mess we are living now? Do you know when we will get out of all the mess?

Yes, we have a lot to talk about the presidential elections and the global financial crisis, but I would like to introduce you in another problem: the Arapaho’s language extinction.

Do you remember when the previous week I asked you what do you think about the Christopher Columbus’ expedition? Was it good or bad that Columbus arrived to America by mistake when he was looking for a new route to India and China? Today we are in the same mess with England, France, Iceland, with all the problems of Mr. Putin’s ambitions, the Chinese’s tainted milk, plus the expansion of the real India with the help of IBM and others… Also, Argentina and Brazil will have to sell their soybeans for coins and Detroit has to change its car manufacturing lines… Maybe, the good news: oil prices after the barrel price slipped below $70 a barrel.

¿Se acuerdan cuando en la semana previa yo les pregunté sobre lo que ustedes piensan acerca de la expedición de Cristóbal Colón? ¿Fue bueno o malo que Colón llegará a América por error cuando el estaba buscando una nueva ruta para llegar a la India y China? Hoy estamos en el mismo revoltijo de Inglaterra, Francia, Islandia, con todos los problemas de las ambiciones del Sr. Putin, con la leche contaminada de China, más la expansión de la “India” gracias a la ayuda de IBM y otros… Además, Argentina y Brasil tendrán que vender su soja por monedas y Detroit tiene que cambiar sus líneas de fabricación de automóviles… Tal vez, la buena noticia fue el petróleo después que el precio del barril se deslizó por debajo de los 70 dólares.

Before we enter into the new subject: the Arapaho’s tongue, we will make a short review of some news:

- Last Wednesday was the third and final presidential debate between the U.S. presidential candidates, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama. They discussed the economy, taxes, heath care, education and other issues.

- El último miércoles fue el tercer y final debate presidencial entre los candidatos presidenciales de los Estados Unidos, Senadores John McCain y Barack Obama. Ellos discutieron sobre economía, impuestos, salud, educación y otros asuntos.

- Wall Street showed a crazy behavior during the week with ups and downs but in the end, the main indexes closed higher than the prior five days. The famous Dow Jones Industrials Average grew 401.03 points, or 4.75% on the week, closing at 8.852.22 on Friday. Nasdaq Composite, index very close to the technology sector, gained 61.78 points, or 3.75%, in the same period closing at 1711.29. And S&P 500 climbed 41.33 points, or 4.60% closing at 940.55.

- President Bush plans to host a global financial summit in New York after he talked with France’s President Sarkozy and European Commission President Barroso at Camp David.

Argentina is one of the world's leading producers of soybeans, corn, wheat, sunflower seeds, grape and beef. Brazil produces coffee, corn, wheat, other cereals and beef. Uruguay exports beef, livestock, wheat, rice. Paraguay produces cotton, sugarcane, tobacco. Chile is a big producer of copper and other minerals. Bolivia is also important producer of minerals. Peru produces asparagus, cotton, and it is important in fish and minerals. Some sources say Argentina could lose as much as $6 billion next year in agricultural exports.

- In the technological arena the most important news of the last days were the Apple’s introduction of new notebooks, the debut of the first Android smart phone, and the excellent financial figures of the third fiscal 2008 quarter of Google.

- En la arena tecnológica, las noticias más importantes de los últimos días fueron: la introducción de nuevos computadores portátiles por parte de Apple, el debut del primer teléfono inteligente Android, y los excelentes números financieros del tercer trimestre fiscal 2008 de Google.

- The Web giant had an increase of 26% in its profit and 31% in its revenue, both compared with a year ago. (Total revenues of the quarter: $5,541,391,000. Total net income: $1,346,167,000). Google showed a strong position and new plans to continue growing despite the gloomy panorama of the economy worldwide.

What about the Arapaho’s tongue? In the last days, a columnist of New York Times published a dramatic story about the extinction of another American native language. This is not only the drama of the Arapaho tribe. A lot of native inhabitants of this continent suffered discrimination, isolation and extermination after the European conquerors defeated the Indian tribes from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.

¿Qué acerca de la lengua Arapaho? En los últimos días, un columnista de New York Times publicó una dramática historia acerca de la extinción de otra lengua nativa americana. Este no es sólo el drama de la tribu Arapaho. Muchos habitantes nativos de este continente sufrieron discriminación, aislamiento y exterminación después que los conquistadores europeos derrotaron a las tribus indias desde Alaska hasta Tierra del Fuego.

Did you know about the Arapahos before? They are a tribe of Native Americans historically living on the eastern plains of Colorado and Wyoming. They were close allies of the Cheyenne tribe. By the 1850s, the Arapaho nation was separated in two tribes: the Northern Arapaho and the Southern Arapaho.

¿Oyó hablar de los Arapahos antes? Ellos son una tribu de nativos americanos que históricamente vivieron en las planicies orientales de Colorado y Wyoming. Fueron aliados de los Cheyennes. En la década de 1850, la nación de los Arapahos fue separada en dos tribus: Arapahos Norteños y Arapahos Sureños.

The Northern Arapaho Nation has lived since 1878 on the Wind River Reservation, Wyoming, near Riverton and not distance from Lander. La Nación de los Arapahos Norteños está viviendo desde 1878 en la Reservación Wind River, en Wyoming, cerca de Riverton y no distante de Lander. Today only about 200 members of the Arapaho tribe speak their language. They are all over the age of 50 and they feel their language will die if the younger generations only speak English.

With the support of organizations who understand the importance of the values of Native American communities, the elders of the tribe at Wind River Reservation began a campaign to revive the language. They are teaching the children. They developed a pre-kindergarten language program and opened schools for different levels of students.

What do you think was the most important news to discuss in our bilingual practice session?

- Financial collapse across of world markets. Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom and United States agreed on common guidelines to address the world financial crisis.

Despite all the peace missions, the Nobel Peace winner received criticism from his enemies such as Russia, Serbia and others.

Do you know Microsoft, New York University and a consortium of universities created the Games for Learning Institute to identify which qualities of computer games inspire students to learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics? The institute will work with students of middle-school (grades 6-8). They are investing more than $3 million.

Did you listen about the conflict between the whales and the US Navy? The US Supreme Court has to determine if the Navy has to suspend or reduce sonar emissions near the California coast to protect whales and other marine mammals.

Munir, a child five years old, who lives in a remote, rural village in Northern Pakistan, is recovering from a serious skin disease thanks to a new telemedicine system developed for the Pakistani Government and the Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi with the technology assistance of the U.S. Department of State, IBM, Motorola, Medweb, USAID and other organizations. The Pakistan Telemedicine Project is building capacity for healthcare services via a virtual clinical system that includes cardiac, ophthalmology, dermatology, infectious diseases assistance and medical education using voice and video conferencing, email and other tools through a telemedicine network with advanced medical peripheral devices including portable ultrasound, digital cameras, stethoscope, X-ray and more. The technology partners of this project are thinking about adding new humanitarian telemedicine projects in other remote locations of the world such as the Tristan da Cunha island, more than 1,665 miles west of Cape Town, South Africa.

Also during these days, many countries in the world are celebrating the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to America which occurred on October 12, 1492 or October 21 of the same year according to the Julian and Gregorian calendar respectively. On Monday, October 13th, government institutions in the United States observe the Columbus Day holiday.

What do you think about the Christopher Columbus’ expedition? According to some historic sources, it was the “start button” of cruel wars for the domain of the New World and the extermination of the native civilizations of the Continent. Some communities don’t celebrate Columbus Day, they celebrate the “Day of Indigenous Resistance”. Spain, France, England, Portugal and Holland were the main European protagonists of these wars.

¿Qué piensan ustedes sobre la expedición de Cristóbal Colón? De acuerdo con algunas fuentes históricas, fue el “botón de arranque” de crueles guerra por el dominio del Nuevo Mundo y el exterminio de civilizaciones nativas del Continente. Every evening, after the close of the Wall Street markets, “trains” of emails full of information arrive at my mobile computer with a lot of figures, news releases and analyses. This last week was incredible about news and big question marks.

Cada tarde, después del cierre de los mercados de Wall Street, "trenes" de correos electrónicos desbordantes de información llegan a mi computador móvil con muchos números, comunicaciones de prensa y análisis. Esta última semana fue increíble por sus noticias y grandes interrogantes.

What do you think was the most important news to discuss in our bilingual practice session?

By the way, the stocks of Reseach In Motion fell $26.77, or 27.45% to close at $70.76 on Friday, after the Canadian company made a gloomy forecast for its next quarter. In the previous quarter, the BlackBerry’s father sold $2.6 billion, 88% up compared year over year, and also it gained $495 million in net income, 72% up also than a year ago. To remember, the shares of RIM were one of the tech “bestsellers” of 2007 together with Google, Baidu and Apple.

- ¡RIMM estornudó y otros contrajeron un gran resfrío! De paso, las acciones de Research In Motion cayeron $26,77 o sea 27,45% para cerrar en $70,76 el viernes después que la empresa canadiense dió un oscuro pronóstico respecto del próximo trimestre. Are you enjoying the change of the colors of nature? Maybe in Florida, the changes are little… but the days are shorter than before also in the “Peninsula” of the beaches, palms, nice flowers and alligators...

What about the news for our bilingual practice session? The financial crash in the United States, bombing of a hotel in Pakistan, bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, Bolivia’s political crisis, China’s tainted milk scandal, Hewlett-Packard cuts 25,000 jobs....No more news about the sickness of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

The good news was the fast recovery of the major Wall Street’s indexes between Thursday and Friday. The Dow Jones Industrials Average only lost 33.55 points on the week. But oil climbed again over the $100 mark.

La Buena noticia fue la rápida recuperación de los principales índices de Wall Street entre el jueves y el viernes. El Dow Jones Industrials Average sólo perdió 33,55 puntos en la semana. Pero el petróleo volvió a subir sobre la marca de los 100 dólares.

In the technology arena: A small European company – Plastic Logic – made a pre-announcement of its new flexible e-ink display that will come before the middle of next year to the market. If everything goes according to the company plans, you would read electronic books better than Amazon’s Kindle in a short time.

They act as a single quantum-mechanical body. The knowledge of the Kondo Effect is very important for the future of the semiconductor industry and other branches of the technology...

¡Hola! ¡Bienvenidos a la comunicación semanal de Spanish-English Club! Hoy tenemos una pesada agenda para nuestra práctica bilingüe.

The last days were bad in different ways: Hurricane Ike hitting Haiti, Cuba, Gulf of Mexico, Texas…, floods in Chicago, train collision in Los Angeles, airplane crash in Russia, financial collapse of Lehman Brothers, question marks about the financial future of Merrill Lynch and AIG, new government crisis in Bolivia, problems between the United States and Latin American countries, and the painful seventh anniversary of September 11’s attacks.

Los últimos días fueron malos en diferentes maneras: El huracán Ike golpeando Haití, Cuba, el Golfo de México, Texas… inundaciones en Chicago, choque de trenes en Los Angeles, accidente de aviación en Rusia, colapso financiero de Lehman Brothers, interrogantes sobre el futuro financiero de Merrill Lynch y AIG, la nueva crisis de gobierno en Bolivia, problemas entre los Estados Unidos y países de América Latina, y el doloroso séptimo aniversario del los ataques del 11 de Septiembre del 2001. (1)

- Hurricane Ike was news all the week. First, it hit Haiti producing big floods. After that, it arrived to the island of Cuba with similar consequences. Next, Ike advanced to the Gulf of Mexico. Its approach to the Texas coastline was dramatic. It whipped the nerves of all the country, and produced high panic in Houston with a population of 5.6 million people. The eye of Hurricane Ike made landfall in Galveston, at 3:10 am, EDT, with sustained winds of 110 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. The big problem was the storm surge - high tides. Till now, it is too early to evaluate all the damages Ike produced in its trajectory.

- El huracán Ike fue noticia toda la semana. Primero, golpeó Haití produciendo grandes inundaciones. Luego, arribó a la isla de Cuba con similares consecuencias. A continuación, Ike avanzó hacia el Golfo de México. Su acercarse al litoral de Texas fue dramático. Azotó los nervios de todo el país, y produjo gran pánico en Houston con una población de 5,6 millones de personas. - When all the observers were celebrating the Government intervention to fix the mortgage-drama of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers cried out: “I am financially ill too! In this case, the suggestion was to sell the company. Bank of America, Barclays, a Chinese firm and others talked during the week. The Lehman’s fate remains unclear because the sale of the entire company is very difficult to execute. Meanwhile, Bank of America looks more interested in Merrill Lynch, another financial institution with problems. The latest news says: Bank of America and Merrill Lynch agreed on a marriage. In another corner, AIG – insurance and retirement group - plans to solve its problems by selling its aircraft-leasing business and other assets.

- Cuando todos los observadores estaban celebrando la intervención del Gobierno para arreglar el drama de las hipotecas de Freddie Mac y Fannie Mae, Lehman Brothers gritó: “¡Yo también estoy financieramente enfermo! En este caso, la sugerencia fue vender la compañía. Bank of America, Barclays, una firma china y otros conversaron durante la semana. La suerte de Lehman continua incierta porque la venta de toda la compañía es muy difícil de concretar. - Major Wall Street’s indexes recovered part of the terrain lost during the past few weeks. The Dow Jones Industrials Average gained 201.03 points on the week despite it's closing in the negative territory on Friday losing 11.72 points on the day, or 0.10%, to end the session at 11421.99. Also, Nasdaq Composite recovered 5.39 on the week closing at 2261.27. And S&P 500 added 9.39 points in the same period to finish at 1251.70.

- Los principales índices de Wall Street recuperaron parte del terreno perdido en las pasadas semanas. Dow Jones Industrials Average ganó 201,03 puntos en la semana a pesar que cerró en territorio negativo el viernes perdiendo 11,72 puntos en ese día, o sea 0,10%, y finalizando la sesión en 11421,99. The good news of the last week was the new decline of the price of the oil barrel. It closed below $100 last Friday.

Maybe you prefer to talk about electronics and technology. Elsewhere, Hewlett-Packard launched to the market the HP EliteBook 6930p, a mobile computer that works up to 24 hours of continuous operation on a single battery charge...

Seven years passed since September 11, 2001… After the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers of New York and the Pentagon, and the crash of the fourth airplane in Pennsylvania, the dust and debris of the towers was cleared and the damaged area of the Pentagon was rebuilt.

Siete años pasaron desde el 11 de Septiembre del 2001… Después del ataque terrorista a las Torres Gemelas de Nueva York y el Pentágono, y la explosión del cuarto avión en Pensilvania, el polvo y los escombros de las torres fue limpiado y el área dañada del Pentágono fue reconstruida.

Government, politicians and common people, the population, and all the members of the civilized world condemned the terrible crime. But the “human face” of this vile act continues suffering…The sorrow for all the civilians who died without saying: “Bye, bye”, and the tears that will never stop…

Could you express in words the feelings of everyone who survive a terrorist attack? During the Argentina’s terrorism years on the 70s, a night, I awaked due to loud noises, in the medium of clouds of smoke and fire, glass lying broken on my body, stuff falling everywhere… It was a bomb detonated by the “Montoneros” - a terrorist group - on the house next door to my house… In that moment, I said to myself: “This is the end of the world…! Am I alive?”

¿Podría usted expresar con palabras los sentimientos de alguien que sobrevivió a un ataque terrorista? Durante los años de terrorismo en la Argentina en los 70s, una noche, desperté debido a estrepitosos ruidos, en medio de nubes de humo y fuego, vidrios cayendo rotos sobre mi cuerpo, material desplomándose por todas partes… Fue una bomba detonada por los “Montoneros” – un grupo terrorista – en la casa de la puerta siguiente a mi casa… En aquel momento, yo me dije a mi mismo: “¡Este es el fin del mundo…! ¿Estoy vivo?”

The magnitude of the September 11’s crime surprised all before we knew it as a terrorist attack. It was not a grenade... It was not a bomb… It was not a big bomb…They were airplanes full of human beings used as missiles, yes, used as “human” missiles against other human beings. But they were not missiles against solders in a combat position. They were missiles against the thousands of civilians working to earn their daily salary, in the fulfillment of their normal responsibilities as members of the civilized society in peace times.

La magnitud del crimen del 11 de Septiembre sobrepasó todo lo que antes conocíamos como un ataque terrorista. No fue una granada… No fue una bomba… No fue una gran bomba… Fueron aviones completos con seres humanos usados como misiles, sí, usados como misiles “humanos” contra otros seres humanos. Pero ellos no fueron misiles contra soldados en una posición de combate. Ellos fueron misiles contra miles de civiles trabajando por sus salarios diarios, en el cumplimiento de sus responsabilidades normales como miembros de una sociedad civilizada en tiempos de paz.

However, it was not enough to kill thousands of civilians working in their normal tasks in a normal morning of a day that began peaceful as others... It was worse… It was horrible… It was the horror that changed bodies of people dying into dust....dust...dust...Could you figure this?

Sin embargo, no fue suficiente matar miles de civiles trabajando en sus tareas normales en una mañana normal de un día que había comenzado pacífico como otros… Fue peor… Fue horrible… Fue el horror de cambiar cuerpos de gente muriendo en polvo… polvo… polvo… ¿Puede imaginarse esto?

“Where is my dad? Is my girlfriend alive? I want to see my son!! Oh! My husband…? Where is my sister? Where is my mom? No! It is not possible…! No, Please God! Why did you allow this? Why did you kill innocent people? Why…? Why…? These tears never will end….Never… Never…!!!

“¿Dónde está mi papá? ¿Está mi novia viva? ¡Yo quiero ver a mi hijo! ¡Ah! ¿Mi esposo…? ¿Dónde está mi hermana? ¿Dónde está mi mamá? ¡No,No es posible! ¡No, Por favor Dios! ¿Por qué permitiste esto? ¿Por qué mataron a gente inocente? ¿Por qué…? ¿Por qué…? Estas lágrimas nunca terminará… ¡Nunca!., ¡Nunca!!!
