The week between Monday October 19 and today shows a mosaic of different subjects. It will not be easy to select the main topic of the last few days. For you, what was the most important news of the week?

The new scenery looks a little like how cancer screenings for women and men after certain ages is recommended. Some days ago, health experts confirmed that concerns about cancer in the later years were excessive.

The fraud in the Afghan election and the first reaction of President Karzai show the impunity of the owners of authority. They don’t care all the world talks about the level of corruption they have. They ignore what democracy means.

El fraude en la elección afgana y la primera reacción del Presidente Karsai muestra la impunidad de los dueños de la autoridad. A ellos no les interesa que el mundo hable acerca del nivel de corrupción que ellos tienen. Ellos ignoran que es lo que la democracia significa.

Personally, I think it was very intense week in particular for the news that is coming every day from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the growing threat against the stability of the region and the world. According to the experts Al Qaeda is the fiercest terrorist group of today and its links with Taliban are very strong.

Personalmente, yo pienso esta semana fue muy intensa en particular por las noticias que están llegando todos los días desde Pakistán, Afganistán y la creciente amenaza contra la estabilidad de la región y del mundo. De acuerdo con los expertos, Al Qaeda es el más violento grupo terrorista de hoy y sus vínculos con el Talibán son muy fuertes.

Personally, I think the new Nobel Peace Prize extends previous controversies about the criteria the Nobel Committee uses to award leaders and organizations that make contributions to achieve peace for countries, communities and regions across the world.

It is not the first time the Nobel Peace Prize would change its label to “Nobel Political Prize”.

From my humble point of view, the new decision of the Norwegian Committee ties the hands of our President exactly at the moment he needs to have the freedom to decide harder actions against an enemy without human compassion.

How today President Obama can act as peace-maker in front an enemy unwilling to respect the western cultural and the civilized manners to live in harmony despite religious, social and race differences? Could we find the correct answer?

Meanwhile, you also could you write a story with your opinions and ideas about this crucial subject that from my point of view will cause more negative effects than positive learning for our children and future generations.

Mientras tanto, ustedes también podrían escribir un relato con vuestras opiniones e ideas acerca de este crucial tema que desde mi punto de vista causará más negativos efectos que un positivo aprendizaje para nuestros hijos y futuras generaciones.

Peace is not a word we can wrap with aspirations of ending wars and conflicts. Peace is not a flag that we can lift when a lot soldiers and also innocent civilians are dying every day for the actions of an enemy who only pursues more blood, mutilations, and destruction.

Paz no es una palabra con la cual nosotros podemos envolver aspiraciones de guerras y conflictos por terminar. Paz no es una bandera que podemos levantar cuando muchos soldados y también ciudadanos inocentes están muriendo cada día por acciones de un enemigo que solamente busca más sangre, mutilaciones, y destrucción.

Definitely peace is not a commodity to buy more applause or sell more books of beautiful poetry of lyricism. Peace is the result of concrete achievements against the devils of humanity who collect the skulls of enemies who were peaceable at the wrong moment.

Definitivamente paz no es una mercancía para comprar más aplausos o para vender más libros de hermosa poesía lírica. Paz es el resultado de concretos logros en contra de los demonios de la humanidad que coleccionan calaveras de enemigos que fueron pacíficos en el momento equivocado.

For all these reasons, I agree with the observers who suggest postponing the accepting of this award for other moments with better possibilities to show concrete achievements for peace.

Por todas estas razones, yo estoy de acuerdo con los observadores que sugieren aplazar la aceptación de este premio para otros momentos con mejores posibilidades de mostrar concretos logros de paz.

Refuse the crown of glory when until now the glory is distant, it would be a magnificent demonstration of greatness that History always keeps in mind.

Personally, I think the cases of the typhoon and earthquakes in the Pacific Ocean are a huge a tragedy. But for the other side, the new unemployment rate shows government and companies till now don’t realize the figures are only figures, no real human beings suffering poverty.

Personalmente, yo pienso que los casos del tifón y terremotos en el Océano Pacífico son una tragedia enorme. Pero por el otro lado, la nueva tasa de desempleo muestra que gobierno y compañías hasta ahora no se dan cuenta que los números son sólo números, no son seres humanos reales sufriendo pobreza.

LAS LÁGRIMAS DE LA POBREZA

A month ago when the U.S. Labor Department unveiled the figures of August, media and government were glad because the statistics reflected better figures from previous expectations. Now they are worried, but all the eyes are imaging better figures on the months to come.

Un mes atrás, cuando el Departamento de Trabajo de los Estados Unidos reveló los números de agosto, los medio y el gobierno estuvieron contentos porque las estadísticas reflejaron mejores números que previas expectativas. Ahora ellos están preocupados, pero todos los ojos están imaginando mejores números en los meses por venir.

From my point of view, to look only at statistics is the wrong way to touch reality. Frequently, figures don’t reflect the different faces of poverty. They don’t show the empty pockets of all the new individuals who are becoming poor because they were working for lower incomes and increasing their bank debts with high interest rates for months and months.

Desde mi punto de vista, mirar solamente estadísticas es un camino equivocado para tocar la realidad. Frecuentemente, los números no reflejan las diferentes caras de la pobreza. Ellos no muestran los bolsillos vacíos de todos los nuevos individuos quienes se han vuelto pobres porque estuvieron trabajando por ingresos muy bajos e incrementando sus deudas bancarias con altas tasas de interés por meses y meses.

For years, maybe for decades, this rich country, its institutions, its companies, and its leaders were busy dreaming how make more money, inflating new colorful balloons of fantastic happiness, or building marvelous paper palaces.

Por años, tal vez décadas, este rico país, sus instituciones, sus compañías, y sus líderes estuvieron ocupados soñando como hacer más dinero, inflando coloridos globos de fantásticas felicidades, y construyendo maravillosos palacios de papel.

When we look from the air, cities like Las Vegas, Miami Beach, Orlando and the beautiful villas of South California, we believe here is the paradise of the dollars and stocks. But how many of these constructions were built with false documents, while with the other hand we offered as a gift to China, India, and Vietnam all our technology and factories that in other times where the foundation of Detroit, California, New York, Ohio, and the most important industrial poles of the United States?

Cuando nosotros miramos desde el aire ciudades tales como Las Vegas, Miami Beach, Orlando y las hermosas villas del sur de California, creemos que este es el paraíso de los dólares y las acciones. Pero, ¿cuántas de esas construcciones fueron construidas con documentos falsos, mientras que con la otra mano ofrecimos como un regalo a China, India y Vietnam toda nuestra tecnología y fábricas que en otros tiempos fueron la fundación de Detroit, California, Nueva York, Ohio, y los más importantes polos industriales de los Estados Unidos?

The problem is till now is a lot of rich people and politicians continue blindly in front of the collapse because they don’t see face to face these human beings who are hungry in this rich country. They continue thinking about luxury cars, expensive mansions and beautiful glassed skyscrapers, or dreaming about more fantastic Olympic events, while the banking institutions don’t assemble social answers to all the people who are immersed in the real drama of our streets and homes.

El problema es que hasta ahora mucha de la gente rica y políticos continúan ciegos en frente al derrumbe porque ellos no ven cara a cara a estos seres humanos que están hambrientos en este rico país. Ellos continúan pensando en automóviles lujosos, costosas mansiones y hermosos rascacielos vidriados, o soñando en más fantásticos eventos olímpicos, mientras que las instituciones bancarias no ensamblan respuestas sociales para toda la gente que está inmersa en el drama real de nuestras calles y hogares.

In summary, Afghanistan, and the rescue of the victims of Pacific’s disasters maybe will receive their answer soon because they are the pictures everybody watches on the screen of the TV. Meanwhile, we will have to wait a long time to solve the deep reality of our own backyards because from helicopters and luxury cars our leaders don’t touch the tears of hungry, the pain of door-knocks without answers, and the counting of the lost pennies held in the pocket in exchange for a slice of bread.

En resumen, Afganistán, y el rescate a las víctimas de los desastres del Pacífico tal vez recibirán su respuesta pronto porque ellos son las imágenes que todos ven en la pantalla de la televisión. Mientras tanto, nosotros tendremos que esperar largo tiempo para resolver la profunda realidad de nuestros traspatios porque los helicópteros y los automóviles lujosos no tocan las lágrimas del hambriento, el dolor de los golpes de puerta sin respuestas, y el conteo de los últimos centavos del bolsillo a cambio de una rebanada de pan.

This is a common picture in a lot of street crossing areas of the main avenues in South Florida today. By the way, two days ago, I couldn’t take a picture when I saw a man 65 years old in Davie, Florida showing this legend: “No job! No food! Could I continue living?”

Is God behind this cloud looking at us? Or is he in Rio congratulating the Brazilians who will have bread and entertainment for the 2016 Olympics?
